Since the first 'Best of Young British Novelists' issue in 1983, every ten years Granta has championed the work of authors who have changed the landscape of British literature: Kazuo Ishiguro, Salman Rushdie, Pat Barker, Zadie Smith, Jeanette Winterson, and Ben Okri have all featured in our lists.
